This is a heads-up regarding potential for a very heavy rainstorm from Christmas Day through Friday morning over the area just south of Kitimat to approximately Bella Bella. The freezing level will rise to nearly 2500 metres with the storm. A warning has been issued for the North Coast Inland sections. This warning may be extended to other areas so we suggest you follow the forecasts and warnings closely. Recall that Environment Canada does not issue warnings more than 24 hours in advance of an event and that precipitation amounts are never mentioned in the public forecast beyond day 2.
Note that the computer model forecasts of total precipitation have been trending downward and forecasters at the Pacific Storm Prediction Centre will be scrutinizing newer runs of each model before deciding upon updated total rainfall forecasts and further warnings. At present, it appears that storm total rainfall of 200 millimetres are possible over a small and largely unpopulated area of the BC Coast north of and including Bella Bella.
