Weather Overview November 28, 2013

A FRONT WILL MOVE QUICKLY ACROSS THE PROVINCE TODAY GIVING LIGHT TO MODERATE QPF TO THE NORTHERN INTERIOR REGIONS TODAY WITH TRACE TO
LIGHT QPF OVER SOUTHERN B.C. THE WEAK AFL (above freezing layer) THAT PREVAILS OVER THE NORTHWEST AND INTERIOR SHOULD BE ELIMINATED OR WEAKENED
BEHIND THIS FRONT. THE NEXT SYSTEM WILL REACH THE NORTH
COAST/ALASKA PANHANDLE FRIDAY MORNING AND WEAKEN AS IT DROPS DOWN TO SOUTHERN BC SATURDAY MORNING. THEN A MAJOR PATTERN CHANGE
DEVELOPS AND ALL NUMERICAL MODELS ARE SHOWING THE COLD
ARCTIC VORTEX (UPPER LOW) OVER THE YUKON DROPPING INTO THE GULF OF ALASKA ON SATURDAY AND DIGGING DOWN THE OUTER COAST ON SUNDAY, SUPPORTING AN INTENSE MARITIME COLD FRONT. THE BASIC PATTERN IS SIMILAR BETWEEN THE GLB, GFS AND ECMWF BUT TONIGHT’S GFS IS ALMOST 12 HOURS FASTER WITH THE POSITION OF THE UPPER LOW ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON. CMC PREFERS THE GLB OR ECMWF OR A BLEND OF THE
TWO, AND WE THINK THATS RESONABLE. THAT SCENARIO WOULD
PLACE THE MARITIME FRONT ACROSS SOUTHERN VANCOUVER ISLAND SUNDAY 4PM AND AN ARCTIC FRONT DRAPED OVER THE SOUTHERN INTERIOR.
