Heights build today and Wednesday as offshore upper ridge moves to BC while becoming somewhat flattened. Northern half gets wet on Wednesday with next system. Today though mostly sunny skies with some afternoon cloud and shower/thundershowers over the southeast corner. Also still a chance of a lingering shower or two this morning over the southern interior.

Intense bands of snow moved down from the north all evening and even into the wee hours of the morning. Penask got hit a little harder than previously expected however we had up to 10 cm in the forecast. By 2 am the precip has moved southward into Kelowna and even into the south Okanagan. High elevation hwys are beginning to clear for the most part attm. There will be a few flurries in the morning but afternoon should clear further in the sw interior as upper high builds. The Kootenays will have some precip in the afternoon with instability and risk of thunder the deep south.

Marine challenges…We have decided to forecast storms for northern Hecate and DXE for Wed, given that three successive runs of the REG have had >45 kts at the 0.995 eta level. The last 3 runs of the Global were suggestive of storms as well. Foreign models are in good agreement with the GEM, although they might be slightly weaker overall. Storms are a possibility off Langara as well, but we only have gales for now. We might need gales for WIN and CEN also…for now we have strong winds.

Strong NW winds expected this morning for the Inner South Coast. Mainly sunny day is forecast for most of the South Coast. 06Z LAM is showing a few showers for the Fraser Valley today. Rain will develop early Wednesday morning over the North Coast. The SE winds for Haida Gwaii and the coastal sections of the North Coast on Wednesday could be close to warning criteria, 60 to 80 km/h is forecast for now.
